A Little About Us
My name is Tayla, and together with my partner Russell, we are the very lucky caretakers of the cats here at Dreamcoons. We are registered breeders with Cats NSW Inc, and are located just outside the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW.
2010 was the year that I first laid eyes on the Maine Coon breed - and that's all it took, I was completely in love! I was instantly captivated by their beauty, charm, striking looks, and of course their fabulous temperament.
It was always a dream of mine to breed these gentle giants, from that first time laying eyes on them. That dream became a reality for the first time in 2016 - this is what inspired my prefix, Dreamcoons.
Between 2010 and 2016, I was lucky enough to be heavily involved with the cats at my grandmothers' place - she, and her partner, are the owners of Coolcoons Maine Coons (est. 1999). I am forever grateful for the opportunities I had, and the knowledge I gained, during that time - everything from colour genetics (my favourite!) and a plethora of other theoretical learnings, to birthing and raising litters, show grooming, and many other lessons in practice.
In 2012, my life changed forever with the arrival of a small bundle that was a black silver tortie tabby bicolour kitten. I fell HARD for this kitten, who would become my very first Maine Coon, Coolcoons Paris. Paris was shown for a short while, with success, before she decided she'd had enough, and it was time for her to become a mother.
This lead to a joint prefix (Tayfi Maine Coons) with my grandmother, as I was under 18 at the time. Paris had 3 litters before being spayed - 1, 2, and 3 kittens respectively. Paris is still with me, as she was always first and foremost my much loved pet and heart cat.
We unfortunately had to say goodbye to our matriarch on 10th August 2024 - gone but never forgotten, our house has not been the same since, and not a day goes by that she isn't thought about.
In 2016 we welcomed our first breeding queen, Coolcoons Sunset in Spring (Sunny). Sunny had a very successful show career - including consistent supreme exhibits at almost every show she attended, and ending the year as Group 1 Kitten of the Year, 2nd Group 1 Entire of the Year, and Highest Scoring Group 1 Exhibit of the Year - before becoming a mother. Sunny went on to have 2 beautiful litters, and we kept Dreamcoons Espresso Martini from the first of those. Early 2019 saw our last litter born, before a break of 5 years because, well, life happens.
In 2024 we welcomed Coolcoons Long Story Short (Poppy), and Riokay Queens Gambit (Anya), to start us back in the show/breeding world. We have acquired several females since then, including two home-bred, and early 2026 saw us import our first stud, Kittycourt Neverending Story from New Zealand. Hopefully he is the first of a few imports to come!
In my spare time, I have completed the PawPeds G1 and G2 internet education courses - links to the graduates pages, where you will find my name and our cattery, are below:
